"A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones." ~Proverbs 17:22~
7th grader: "Miss Lewis, you are like Mary Poppins-you always have a song to sing!" 2 senior girls readily agree with him.
1st grade student after 3 months of not liking me very much: reaching hand across the table during math class, pats my hand, and says "Miss Lewis, we are best friends, right?"
8th grader after listening to me confront another student about disrespect: "I guess if I told you _________, then I would be told I was being disrespectful?" "Yes, that is right." "Okay, I think I"ll just go back to studying then."
4th grader: "Miss Lewis, your earrings always remind me of candy. Today you are wearing cotton candy on your ears."
10th grader: "Miss Lewis, you live ALONE???!!! You need a dog or a cat. Goldfish? What are you doing for Thanksgiving??" Upon hearing my Thanksgiving plans-"Phew!! You won't be all by yourself." The next day this girl and one of my senior girls are looking for dogs I can buy.
Advice of a 7th grade boy (who had learned from experience) to an 8th grade boy who was trying to argue with me about clearly defined instructions: "Dude, Miss Lewis really does know best. Just do it. Seriously!"
7th grade boy walks into my room with a sigh of relief for 6th hour: "Finally, Miss Lewis-my favorite teacher." "Well, you might not think so once we talk about something I found out happened yesterday when you left my room." After a short conversation in the hallway and a violation had been given, 7th grade boy walks into class and says very diplomatically "Miss Lewis, you are still my favorite. I so deserved that violation! You told me what would happen if I ever did what I did. So you are still my favorite."
8th grade girl after I get done teasing her and reminding her that I tease those I care about: "Miss Lewis, I could use a little bit less care from you."
10th grader after 10 minutes of silence during 7th hour: "Miss Lewis, do you always talk to yourself when you are working on the computer?" YEP!!! Helps me keep everything organized in my brain, but drives my students nuts :-) LOL
